Michael — Apparently getting a driver’s license was really bad for Michael’s blogging habits. So in case you were wondering, here’s the lowdown his recent actions. Since successfully obtaining highly advanced photographic equipment he has been busy using it. Like this and like that. He is also building a new website for his photos and a new redo of his blog to go with it. Word is that there is even a new domain name involved. He dosn’t want to blog again til he gets it done. In the meantime he has gone and got him a LiveJournal with the sole purpose of making fun of LiveJournal. Silly Boy.
Photoshop — Adobe announced Photoshop 8 this week. Only problem is something went screwy in the naming department and they are calling it Photoshop CS The CS stands for Creative Suite. Todd Dominey weighs in on the name in his peice Dead End Naming Conventions. DPReview has posted an in-depth review of Photoshop CS’s new features and why this release was made with digital photographers in mind. Also of note is that Photoshop CS is Adobe’s first product with required activation. Within 30 days of installing it you must electronically activate your copy of Photoshop with Adobe. This will link your photoshop to your particular computer. This is only necessary in Windows versions of the software. In section 2.4 the EULA for Photoshop 7 (PDF link) it states that you are allowed to install the same copy of photoshop onto your desktop and your laptop computer. It will be interesting if this gets removed from Photoshop 8’s EULA because of the activation. I’m just going to call it Photoshop 8, if for no other reason than this way I’ll know what I’m talking about.
Apple — When it comes to consumer technology innovation there is Apple, and there is everyone who does whatever Apple just did that worked. Which is to say, there is pretty much just Apple. Steven Frank wrote up a nice little rant about in in response to a press release from Dell announcing their new iPod wannabe the Dell DJ, and the new iTunes Music Store… no sorry, the new Dell Music Store that “allows seamless, legal downloading of songs to the Dell DJ.” Good for them. Then of course there is L, or go-L or Liebermann Inc. or whatever they are actually called, who has ripped off Apple’s website their product lines and even their product names. What the heck is a Cinerama anyway? What amazing innovations do they bring to the table you ask? Well, they cut their logos on their machines out of actual rocks. Really. Rocks. And not just any kind of rocks all kinds of rocks. They also have a menubar on their website that doesn’t link to their pages properly anywhere except the home page. That’s kinda innovative. This cartoon from The Joy of Tech really puts in all in perspective. If it doesn’t make sense to you, you might not know that Apple has so many rumor sites that that now that have rumor site parodies.
wasting time — While writing thing entry I scored 910 and completed 6 tables in RSVP. Whoot!
Ok. That should do me for a few days. ;-) Now I can go to bed.
