Rupert has a home.

Everyone, I would like you to meet Rupert. As he now has a home. He also has a custom error page. Rupert I should explain, is my personal computer. His DNS is being provided (for free) by the good folks at DynDNS. Who offer a wide range of services on a free/donation basis. All I had to do was install a daemon process that informs the DynDNS people whenever my ip changes. Sweet.

Comments: Rupert has a home.

what are you actually talking about (for those of us who don’t know what a DNS is, or why anybody would want one.

DNS is computer for ‘the place one computer might ask where, exactly, to find another computer on the internet’ — in this case, Wally’s Mac tracking down Xian’s laptop.

It’s like cavemen hunting their furry creatures for food, but brand-new and entirely better!

This DynDNS is trying to initiate the Dictatorship of the Proletariat by wresting control of this important service away from the ivory tower types and into the MARKETPLACE, where it belongs, baby!

DNS stands for Dynamic Name Server.

“Rupert”? Cool. Yes, mine is called “Blackhaven” and DynDNS rules big time.
